Montreal’s newest basketball team is staying true to its word and has announced when open tryouts will begin.
“We’ve been filling out our roster since the beginning of the year,” explains Tundra Owner and Manager Juan Mendez. “But we won’t finalize the team until we’ve seen the talent that will turn up at the open tryouts.”
The team is looking to be made from local talent including individuals from CEGEP, University programs and will include post-graduate candidates from across the city and province.
“The talent is there,” points out Tundra coach Igor Rwigema, “I know because I’ve had a hand in spotting and developing Quebec basketball talent across the province for years.”
“We are looking forward to seeing who comes out.”

On top of students and graduates, the team will also be touring community centres.
“This is a city thirsty for basketball,” Mendez said. “Having our guys with their feet on the ground and in the places where people of al ages play will, we hope, remind people that we are all in this effort to bring more basketball to the city together.”
Tryouts will run on Saturday, January 21 from noon to 5 p.m., and Sunday, January 22, from noon to 2 p.m. at the UQAM Sports Center at 1212 Rue Sanguinet.
