Man stabbed on sidewalk in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, suspect flees scene

The 49-year-old man who was stabbed Friday evening in Montreal’s Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie neighborhood is not in life-threatening condition. However, he sustained serious injuries.

The attack took place around 6:30 p.m. on Masson Street, near the intersection with 12th Avenue, according to the Montreal police (SPVM).

The man, who sustained injuries to his upper body, told police he had been stabbed on the sidewalk by another man following an altercation with him, explained Manuel Couture, SPVM spokesperson. The exact motive for the dispute is unknown, he added.

The suspect fled before police arrived. He was still being sought by police on Saturday morning.

The victim was transported to a hospital. Investigators will interview the man once his condition allows.

The SPVM has opened an investigation. Officers will interview witnesses at the scene and review surveillance camera footage in the area.
