Six-year-old girl dies after ski accident in Lanaudière

A six-year-old girl died after a ski accident at the Val Saint-Côme ski centre in Lanaudière on Sunday morning.

The cause of the accident is still unknown, but it happened at 9:30 a.m. while the girl was using the T-bar to ascend the hill.

She was transported to hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The ski hill was closed Sunday evening to allow staff to process the tragedy, but reopened on Monday.

The president of the hill, posted a message to Facebook saying “the large family of Val Saint-Côme is devastated by the tragic accident and sending thoughts to family and friends.”

The Sûreté du Québec is investigating to determine what exactly happened, but nothing seems to lead to anything criminal for the moment – more of a tragic accident.

Val-Saint-Come is about 120 kilometres north of Montreal in the Lanaudière region.
