The SPVM is going forward with its commitment to hire more racially diverse candidates by launching a targeted recruitment campaign.
Montreal police says the campaign will broaden the pool of candidates eligible for the AEC Police Diversity program.
The deadline to register is April 17.
“The police must be more inclusive and this improvement to the program contributes to the achievement of this objective,” SPVM Chief Fady Dagher said in a statement. “We are always actively looking for Indigenous People or those from visible or ethnic minorities. This objective remains very important to me.”
The goal of the AEC Police Diversity program is to hire diverse candidates in order to better represent Montreal’s diverse population.

The program is also expanding to graduates in a field of social studies without previous training in police techniques – whether they are diverse candidates or not.
The social studies fields now recognized by the program:
- Bachelor’s degree in criminology, sociology, psychology, social work, security and police studies, law and social sciences
- CEGEP diploma in social work techniques, special education techniques or delinquency intervention techniques.
“I am very happy to be able to recruit people with a diversified study profile who will contribute, with their experience and training, to better understand the challenges of populations and thus better adapt our approaches and our interventions,” added Dagher.
