Body found washed up on river bank in Montreal’s Pierrefonds

A body was found washed up on the bank of Rivière des Prairies, behind a house, in Montreal’s Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough Thursday.

Montreal police (SPVM) received a 911 call at around 10:35 a.m. reporting the presence of a body at the water’s edge near Gouin West and Saint-Jean Boulevards.

“Upon arrival, police officers located a non-responsive body on the river bank,” SPVM spokesperson Ann-Sophie Simard said. “There was a perimeter that was established to let the SPVM investigators analyze the site and the case will be transferred to the coroner’s office.”

The investigation has been handed off to the coroner’s office to determine the person’s identity and how they died.

“The coroner, Dr. Jean Brochu, has been appointed to conduct an investigation to determine the cause and circumstances of the death. He will also perform the formal identification of the deceased,” wrote the Quebec Coroner’s Office in an email to CityNews on Thursday afternoon.

In March, two teens fell through the ice into the river near Jacques-Bizard Boulevard in L’Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève, west of where the body was found Thursday. While one of the teens was rescued, a search for an 18-year-old man was suspended after three days.

It’s still unclear if the body could be that of the teen.
