Arson causes major damage to downtown building

By The Canadian Press

Suspected arson caused heavy damage to a downtown Montreal commercial building Wednesday morning. There were no reported injuries.

As of Wednesday morning, no arrests had been reported by the SPVM.

Police say a 911 call came in around 4:20 a.m., which led firefighters to the burning building on Guy Street near the intersection of Boulevard René-Lévesque West.

In the rubble, firefighters from the Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal (SSIM) found what they believed to be an incendiary object.

The investigation was then transferred to the SPVM arson squad.

The same building was affected by suspected arson in January. Investigators also found traces of accelerant in that incident.
