City of Montreal ends leniency period for parking tickets in ice storm aftermath

By News Staff

The City of Montreal ended its leniency period for parking tickets Saturday, which was introduced in the immediate aftermath of last week’s ice storm.

Montreal drivers were previously not receiving tickets for parking infractions related to street sweeping operations or parking stickers.

The city says that decision was in order to “give citizens a needed break.”

If any tickets were issued for those two offences, the city says they will be cancelled.

That leniency period ended Saturday morning.

Tickets will not be cancelled for violations affecting public safety or the flow of traffic, such as blocking reserved lanes, parking near a fire hydrant or blocking bus stops, as there was no leniency period for those violations.

The city says street cleaning operations are underway to clear out damaged trees from sidewalks and roadways.
