30-year-old man dead after brawl near Mount Royal

A 30-year-old man died after being involved in an altercation that occurred in a park at the foot of Mount Royal in Montreal.

The altercation took place around 5:10 p.m. on Sunday between several people in a park located near the intersection of Avenue du Parc and Chemin de la Côte-Sainte-Catherine.

The victim sustained upper-body injuries from a sharp object. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, explained Manuel Couture, spokesperson for Montreal police (SPVM).

A 58-year-old man was arrested near the scene and will be interviewed by investigators who will attempt to determine his involvement in the altercation.

The cause of the altercation remained unknown early Monday morning. The investigation has been handed over to the SPVM’s Major Crimes Unit.

This is the eighth homicide to occur in Montreal in 2026, according to Couture.
