Thousands of police officers to pay tribute to fallen SQ Sgt. Maureen Breau at funeral Thursday

A funeral will take place today for the Quebec police officer killed in the line of duty. Sgt. Maureen Breau was stabbed and killed last month while trying to apprehend a man.

Between 3,000 and 7,000 officers from police forces across North America are expected in Trois-Rivières on Thursday for the regimental funeral of Sûreté du Québec (SQ) Sgt. Maureen Breau, who was killed in the line of duty on March 27 in Louiseville – about 110 kilometres northeast of Montreal.

Stream it LIVE at 1:30 p.m. on our website.

Before the ceremony officers will march in solidarity, three kilometers from the Complexe Sportif Alphonse-Desjardins, to the Sanctuaire Notre-Dame-du-Cap – where the ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m.

“Such a tragedy reminds us of the danger of the police profession in the face of extreme situations like the one Sergeant Breau and her colleagues had to face,” said the SQ in a press release with funeral details.

The 42-year-old Sergeant leaves behind two children and a husband who is also a SQ officer. The force prepared a tribute video to honour her.

The SQ has set up an email for anyone who would like to send words of condolences to colleagues and loved ones: condoleances@surete.qc.ca.

Quebec’s chief coroner will hold a public inquest into her killing.
