According to the STM, a major portion of Montreal’s green line of the metro system is closed indefinitely between Lionel-Groulx and Frontenac.

The move, a preventative measure after a water leak led to finding cracks in the vault in the tunnel between Berri-UQAM and Saint-Laurent stations.

Initially, it said service would resume at 2 a.m., but then announced that service would remain suspended for an “undetermined period of time.”

In a press release, Montreal’s transit system indicated, “As the STM’s priority is to ensure the safety of its employees and customers, the Société asked the City of Montréal to divert heavy vehicle traffic between Berri and Saint-Laurent streets on de Maisonneuve Boulevard. It has also decided to cease metro service between Lionel-Groulx and Frontenac stations until further notice so that crews can conduct a second assessment to evaluate the situation.”

During the disruption, they say shuttles are operating between Berri-UQAM and Frontenac metro stations continuously until the last train passes around 1 a.m. until further notice.  Commuters can check out the STM website for more information.

More to come. This is a developing story.
