Montrealer Shaundel Celestin, a mother of two, organized a Caribbean-themed brunch at the Plaza Pointe-Claire.

A Caribbean-themed brunch was held for Mother’s Day Sunday at Plaza Pointe Claire.

Jamaica’s national dish ackee and saltfish were served, and steamed sweet plantain for dessert.

The feast was accompanied by a live steel drums performance.

“This is really a special Mother’s Day for me,” said one attendee. “And I have my two girls, so I’m very happy.”

While parents got to relax, the kids had access to the Nemesis video gaming lounge.

Its owner, Shaundel Celestin, is a mother of two herself, organized the event with the Caribbean Playmas Montreal Cultural Association.

“We decided to host a Caribbean brunch because I am of Caribbean descent, my mother being Jamaican and my father being Haitian,” said Celestin. “So I wanted to put something together that reflects our community and our culture for the moms.”
