Two men sentenced for manslaughter following deadly 2019 LaSalle home invasion

On Wednesday Omar Araghoune, 36, and Gretzky Marcellus, 32, were sentenced in the LaSalle shooting death of Osvaldo Pineda Melgar.

Osvaldo Pineda Melgar was killed in front of his four-year-old daughter, nine-year-old son, and their mother as they were getting ready to go to school.

On September 16, 2019, Araghoun, Marcellus, and a third man, Jeffrey Romel (Satan) Nauzinor, broke into the family’s home to steal drugs from Melgar.

Nauzinor shot the father in the head in front of his family while the other two men searched for drugs.

The Montreal Gazette reports they were heard laughing when they left the scene.

Nauzinor was found guilty of first-degree murder last December and sentenced to life behind bars.

Wednesday, the judge said that while Araghoune and Marcellus did not shoot the victim, they participated in the premeditated home invasion.

Araghoune was sentenced to 12 years in prison and Marcellus to 17 years behind bars.

Marcellus received a longer sentence because he had a prior conviction of armed robbery in 2013.

He also disappeared while out on statutory release during his seven-year sentence for that crime.
