Gunshots fired at business on Crescent in downtown Montreal

By The Canadian Press

MONTREAL – Gunshots rang out at dawn on Friday in a busy commercial area of downtown Montreal.

Calls to the 911 alerted police that detonations had been heard around 5:30 a.m. on Crescent Street, near the intersection of Sainte-Catherine Street West, more than two hours after the area’s many licensed establishments had closed.

When they arrived on the scene, police officers from the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) noticed several bullet holes in the windows of a business. Shell casings were also found on the ground.

No one appeared to have been injured and no arrests had been made.

A security perimeter was set up, and investigators were expected to examine the scene during the day.

Crescent Street was closed to traffic for an undetermined period, south of Sainte-Catherine Street West. This section is frequently used by motorists leaving downtown to access the Ville-Marie Ouest expressway.
