By The Canadian Press

On Thursday, the National Assembly honoured the Memorial Cup champions, the Québec Remparts.

A motion was unanimously adopted to pay tribute to them, and a ceremony was held in the Salon rouge, in the presence of the four party leaders.

In front of the players, who proudly wore the team’s jerseys, the President of the National Assembly, Nathalie Roy, emphasized that their victory was “brilliant” not only for Quebec City, but also for the entire Quebec major junior hockey league.

“Dear players, your team is more than a team; you don’t hesitate to call yourselves brothers, a big family,” she declared, also saluting all the support staff, soigneur, etc.

For his part, general manager and coach Patrick Roy emphasized the “boundless resilience” of his players.

“For the coaching staff, it was a real source of pride to be able to work with such a special group,” he said in his speech.

The Remparts won the Memorial Cup last Sunday, beating the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-0.

Jonatan Julien, Minister responsible for the Capitale-Nationale region, unanimously passed a congratulatory motion.

It emphasized that Patrick Roy is “one of our most illustrious ambassadors”.

The Assembly also recognized “the sustained efforts of the Québec Remparts, who have built, over the years, an unshakeable organization that has won them three trophies”.

This is the fourth consecutive time that a QMJHL team has lifted the most important trophy in Canadian junior field hockey.

The Acadie-Bathurst Titan (2018), Rouyn-Noranda Huskies (2019) and Saint John Sea Dogs (2022) preceded the Remparts, while the event was not held in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
