Patrick Roy confirms departure from Quebec Remparts after Memorial Cup win

By Sportsnet

Quebec Remparts head coach and general manager Patrick Roy and team president Jacques Tanguay officially announced Tuesday they are both leaving the club.

Roy and Tanguay’s departures come just a little over a week after the Remparts captured the Memorial Cup.

Roy originally coached the Remparts from 2005-13 and won the Memorial Cup during his first season behind the bench.

The Hall of Fame goaltender left to join the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche as head coach and VP of hockey operations, earning the Jack Adams Award in 2013-14, and compiled a 130-92-24 record over three seasons. Roy resigned in 2016 citing philosophical differences with the organization.

He rejoined the Remparts in 2018 serving as head coach and GM for the past five seasons.

Roy had already expressed interest in moving on after winning the Memorial Cup once more.

“There’s no better ending than that, that’s for sure,” Roy told Dave Stubbs of NHL.com last Friday.

Roy and Tanguay, along with Michel Cadrin, purchased the Beauport Harfangs and moved the franchise to Quebec City in 1997. Tanguay remained onboard as a shareholder and club president after the Remparts were sold to Quebecor in 2014.
