Nurse at private CHSLD charged with sexually assaulting multiple seniors

A Montreal nurse was fired after being charged with sexually assaulting multiple seniors at a long-term care home in Rosemont—La Petite-Patrie.

Francisco Ferna Abarca Mena appeared in court Monday to face five counts of sexual assault and five counts of sexual exploitation related to alleged incidents between Jan. 1, 2022, and June 3, 2023.

The 56-year-old worked as a night nurse at CHSLD Angus – a private, non-subsidized seniors’ residence.

A statement on the CHSLD’s website said it received two complaints from residents on June 5 about “inappropriate acts” allegedly committed by a night nurse, but they did not name the employee.

“To preserve the integrity of the ongoing judicial process and out of respect for the victims, we are bound to confidentiality as to the identity of the persons involved and the acts committed,” the CHSLD Angus wrote.

They say the worker was immediately suspended and an internal investigation led to the regional health board and Montreal police being notified.

The accused was arrested Thursday.
