A two-storey building that caught fire in Montreal’s Côte-Des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-De-Grâce borough forced the evacuation of two families early Wednesday morning.
The fire broke out shortly before 2 a.m. in a duplex at the intersection of Girouard Avenue and Saint-Jacques Street.
Firefighters triggered a first alarm at 1:55 a.m., then a second was sounded about 20 minutes later.
The flames most likely started on the second floor, then spread to the attic.
The intervention required 65 firefighters and 21 vehicles before the fire was completely brought under control.
The two evacuated families were taken care of shortly after by the Red Cross. There were no injuries.
The cause of the fire may be from welding work taking place close to the duplex.
