Montreal’s Asian night market, also known as Marché de Nuit Asiatique is aiming to be bigger and better this year. For the first time ever, the city’s annual market, which showcases the vibrancy, culinary delights, and cultural experiences of Asian communities, is teaming up with T&T Supermarché, the largest Asian supermarket chain in Canada.
“Tonight, I won’t cook because I’m gonna get my dumplings here,” said Marwa Rizqy, MNA for Saint-Laurent.
The event aims to bring together food vendors, artists, performers, and enthusiasts to create an immersive and exciting experience for attendees.
The highly anticipated annual event starts tonight August 17 and continues throughout the weekend, until Sunday, August 20. The event will transform the grounds of T&T Supermarché Montréal into a bustling hub of Asian culture, street food, and entertainment.
“The thing about the Asian night market is for everyone to discover Asian food and culture. And it to give a platform to all those different vendors and restaurants to this public and I’ve always been confident that in Montreal we have this crowd maybe next year we can test out Brossard but this year with the support of T&T it’s the first time outside the area of Chinatown and downtown and we feel really confident,” said Yifeng Eva Hu, president of Montreal’s Asian Night Market.
“Throughout the weekend if we keep going like this we’re gonna receive more than 40,000 people over the weekend,” said Hu about the first night of the market.
This year’s edition marks a significant milestone as it brings together two beloved entities, combining the vibrant atmosphere of the night market with the convenience and variety of T&T Supermarché’s exceptional offerings.
“The best part is, when you discover a food you love, you can walk right over to T&T and buy the ingredients to recreate that in your own kitchen,” Tina Lee, CEO of T&T Supermarché, said in a press release. “This partnership allows us to showcase the rich diversity of Asian culture, culinary delights, and vibrant traditions to a wider audience.”
Culinary surprises, culture, and entertainment
The night market is certain to have something for everyone. An array of delectable street food stalls featuring authentic dishes from various regions. Attendees can indulge in mouth-watering delicacies that capture the essence of Asian cuisine, from aromatic dumplings and sizzling skewers to refreshing bubble tea and much more.
As well, market stalls will be brimming with unique products, crafts, and cultural treasures, and those who attend will certainly be captivated by the vibrant colors, aromatic scents, and lively sounds that evoke the enchanting spirit of Asian street markets. An exciting lineup of entertaining activities that celebrate the richness and diversity of Asian culture is also on the schedule.
“As you can see here yes there is the Asian community but it’s more than just the Asian community I see the Lebanese, Moroccan, and Indian community and they come here to discover and they want more and more,” said Rizqy.
“I’m so delighted about the vast mix of people of all ages of all ethnicities you know I think the one thing that brings us all together is food,” said Lee.
As part of the commitment to promoting environmental consciousness, the event will be partnering with Bo, a local Quebec startup, for a pilot program to provide reusable food packaging solutions at scale for outdoor events to transition from single-use products and raise awareness towards more sustainable practices.
