QUEBEC – A poll on voting intentions predicts a very close fight between the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) and the Parti québécois (PQ) in the upcoming by-election in Quebec City’s Jean-Talon riding. A date has not offically been set for the election yet.
The poll conducted from August 8 to 13 by Léger for the Parti québécois gives 32 per cent of voting intentions to the PQ and 30 per cent to the CAQ.
Québec solidaire (QS) is in third place, with 17 per cent support, ahead of the provincial Liberals (PLQ), at 16 per cent.
The Conservative Party of Quebec (PCQ) with just 5 per cent support.

Many of the candidates have yet to be identified.
Asked when the by-election may be called, on the sidelines of a major investment announcement in Bécancour on Thursday, Premier Legault remained vague.
“We’ll announce it in due course, our candidate and the election date. The law gives us six months,” Legault said.
The Jean-Talon riding has been vacant since CAQ MNA Joëlle Boutin, resigned earlier this summer. She had garnered over 32 per cent of the vote in the October 3 election.
For several decades, Jean-Talon was a stronghold of the Liberal Party, having been represented by several cabinet ministers a Premier, including Raymond Garneau, Gil Rémillard, Yves Bolduc, Philippe Couillard and Sébastien Proulx.
The telephone survey published by the Journal de Québec on Friday was conducted among 300 residents of the riding. It has a margin of error of 5.66 per cent, 19 times out of 20.
