Man stabbed in youth hostel, suspect arrested

MONTREAL – A 48-year-old man was stabbed in a Montreal youth hostel Wednesday evening.
The victim was stabbed in the upper body, and suffered serious injuries, but his life is not in danger.
The stabbing occurred around 7:30 p.m. inside a hostel on Christophe-Colomb Avenue, near Mont-Royal Avenue in the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough.
“According to preliminary information, the suspect broke into a youth hostel and, for a reason unknown at this time, and attacked the victim with a knife,” said agent Véronique Dubuc, spokesperson for the Montreal police force (SPVM).
The suspect was quickly arrested thanks to information provided by the victim to police officers on patrol in the area.
“He told police where to find the suspect, who was running south on Christophe-Colomb. The police chased the suspect and arrested him a few metres further on,” said Dubuc.
The suspect, a 56-year-old man, is in custody and scheduled to be met by investigators.
“The crime scene is protected to preserve evidence,” said the SPVM spokeswoman.
The investigation is ongoing.
