Montreal girl’s phone stopped being used in the hours before she was reported missing

A murder trial has heard that the phone of a nine-year-old Montreal girl found drowned in New York last summer went silent in the hours before she was reported missing.
Evidence presented to the jury today shows Melina Frattolin opened apps on her phone thousands of times in the week she was in New York with her father.
Luciano Frattolin is charged with second-degree murder and the concealment of a human corpse in the death of his daughter.
The 46-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to both charges and has been held without bail since his arrest in July 2025.
The jury was shown a video the girl sent to her mother at around 4:30 p.m. on the day she was reported missing, in which she filmed herself smiling and playing with her hair.
Her phone was last used an hour later, and her father reported her missing at around 10 p.m. that day.
