Expect the work we’ve seen on Montreal roads all summer – to continue into the fall.

There will be 51 work sites this fall, the same number as this summer.
To avoid traffic jams, much of the work will be done on evenings and weekends – with an especially difficult one expected for drivers on Thanksgiving weekend – Oct. 6-9.
Motorists should plan ahead – and take public transit when possible.
“The same level of congestion should be expected and we still request people go online and plan their transit – go on Quebec 511 – check out chrono if they want to use public transit which we recommend and they can subscribe to the Mobility Montreal newsletter,” said Louis-André Bertrand, spokesperson with Transport Quebec.
Among the major closures to note:
- For the next four weekends there will be closures on highway 40 west – at des Pins – for work in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue; take the 20 west instead.
- Thanksgiving weekend: Highway 20 eastbound will be closed fully at the St-Pierre Interchange. Motorists will be detoured via the 520 east.

Expect delays and work in the airport sector next week – plan ahead and leave early.
“People who have early flights should plan ahead cause there will be closures from Sunday night to Thursday, so if you have an early flight plan ahead to have a head start on your commute to the airport,” added Bertrand.

Mobility Montreal says the good news is more than half of the current sites under Montreal’s watch will be done by winter.
“Sixty per cent of the construction work under the control of the city will be completed,” said Philippe Sabourin, spokesperson for the city of Montreal.

There will however be new work sites introduced in the new year.
