Longer paid parking hours as of November 15 in downtown Montreal

The City of Montreal is extending paid parking hours in the downtown area.

As of November 15, parking will be charged Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday hours will remain the same, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The city says stickers indicating the new paying times will be put up in September, with a notice stating that the changes will only come into effect on November 15.

The city says the decision was taken after discussions with partners.

“We took the time to meet with our downtown partners to present the objectives of these new measures and to listen to their comments. For example, the extension of fee-based time slots will be more in line with the opening hours of various businesses and cultural institutions, and aims not only to increase rotation, but also the availability of on-street parking spaces,” said Sophie Mauzerolle, responsible for transportation and mobility on the City of Montreal Executive Committee.

Adding that these changes are consistent with the guiding principles of the Parking Policy adopted by the City of Montreal in 2016, which aims to “optimize parking downtown and on commercial arteries in order to promote economic vitality”.

The maximum payment period will also be increased from three to five hours.
