Two pedestrians seriously injured after collision in St-Laurent, driver charged

A 19-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man were transported to hospital in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle on Sunday afternoon on Chemin de la Côte-de-Liesse in Montreal.

On Monday morning the Montreal police force said the man’s life is no loner in danger. The woman remains in critical condition but is stable.

A 28-year-old male driver, Keith Joseph Stephan, was charged in court on Monday with dangerous driving and driving causing bodily harm.

Several calls were made to 911 shortly after 2:30 p.m. Sunday to report a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrians near Hébert Street, in the Saint-Laurent borough.

Once on scene, police and paramedics assisted a man and a woman who were seriously injured.

“According to initial information provided by witnesses, a vehicle left the parking lot of a business located on Chemin de la Côte-de-Liesse and headed west,” said Drouin.

For a reason still unknown to police, the vehicle skidded and deviated from its trajectory, hitting the woman who was on the sidewalk.

The car then hit a lamp post, which fell to the ground, injuring a man who was also on the sidewalk.

The two victims were transported to hospital. The woman was injured in the lower body, while the man suffered injuries in the upper part of his body.

Witnesses were also treated for shock.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Stephan was  released, but must abide by strict conditions, including not driving a car during court proceedings. He’s due back in court Nov. 1.
