One dead, five injured, in two Montreal accidents

MONTREAL – A 22-year-old motorist died and four other young men were in critical condition Wednesday morning after two single-car accidents in northeast Montreal Tuesday night.

A 21-year-old woman was also injured in one of the collisions, but her life is not in danger, according to Montreal police (SPVM).

The first accident occurred at around 8:40 p.m. in the Rivière-des-Prairies borough. According to police, a loss of control occurred on Louis-Hippolyte-Lafontaine Blvd. as the vehicle was heading northbound, near the intersection of Maurice-Duplessis Blvd. Two young men, aged 18 and 20, were taken to hospital in critical condition.

The second accident took place at around 9:50 p.m. in Montreal-North. A vehicle lost control and hit several parked cars before crashing into a tree on Lacordaire Blvd, near the intersection of Arthur-Chevrier Street.

Three men in their early 20s were seriously injured and were taken to hospital in critical condition. A young woman was also injured.

One of the men died in hospital a few hours after the accident.

Safety perimeters were set up at the scenes of both accidents to allow SPVM collision investigators to establish the circumstances of what happened.
