“We need to support these kids, we need to take care of them and put smiles on their faces,” said Wafaa Loubani, vice president of the Canadian Palestinian Foundation of Quebec (CPFQ).
The CPFQ in Montreal is working to help Palestinians in Gaza. The foundation is collecting donations online to offer humanitarian aid to children in Gaza who are running out of milk and basic nutrients.
As the Israeli airstrikes continue in response to the Oct. 7 Hamas attack, Palestinians have been cut off from water, electricity, and medical supplies.
“This campaign is to give help, to aid the people in their needs, like the daily needs, like the milk, medical aid, clothes maybe, what don’t know exactly what is their needs especially now all the borders are closed, so we don’t a full idea so how we are going to send their needs,” explained Loubani.
“It depends on the ceasefire, and after that when the borders are open that will be our target. First of all, we need this campaign to already be established and organized and have the money. As soon the ceasefire is there, we will help our community”

According to UN Women, as of Oct. 20, close to 500, 000 women and girls have been displaced from their homes in Gaza, and more than 6,600 women and children have been injured. All since Oct. 7.
“We have a sponsor program child and plus we have contact and communication with Haidar Abdel-Shafi organization and the Red Cross Palestinian, and other organizations in Palestine who help people and who take care of the kids who are orphans,” said Loubani.
“But now in this war, we are concerned about how to take care of these kids who either lost their families, they are orphans, they don’t have places to live, they don’t have clothes to wear, it is a big issue for us and that’s our concern nowadays.”

The CPFQ is urging all communities to give a helping hand – donations can be made online.
“As a Canadian Palestinian association, really we ask the Quebec community and Canadian community to help these kids who are in need. They see the media, they see the kids are dying, and they see the people calling for basic needs. The main needs are water, milk, food, and shelter to live in need, that is really our call for everyone,” implored Loubani.
