Île-aux-Tourtes bridge to be partially closed on weekend, more public transit options added

The Quebec Transport Ministry (MTQ) is adding public transit options like more buses and trains between Montreal and Vaudreuil-Dorion to help with traffic surrounding the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge.

Three out of six lanes will be open on the bridge this weekend, as the MTQ carries out work after a large crack was found, completely closing the bridge last weekend.

To help alleviate congestion, the exo train line announced additional departures on the Vaudreuil/Hudson line 11:

  •  Train #16: Departing from Vaudreuil at 7:30 a.m.
  •  Train #12: Departing Hudson Station at 6:14 a.m.
  •  Train #21: Departing Lucien L’Allier station at 4:40 p.m., ending at Hudson station

There are also already around 100 bus departures on the lines: 7, 10, 35, and 40 – which have been in place since the beginning of the roadwork on the bridge.

Mobilité Montréal advises motorists to plan ahead for this weekend, meanwhile the MTQ says commuters should try to use public transport when possible.

They are reassuring Quebecers that the lanes that remain open are safe – and if that changes they will not hesitate to close them.

87,000 people travel on the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge daily, it connects Montreal’s West Island and Vaudreuil-Soulanges in the Montérégie.

Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Senneville, and Vaudreuil are the municipalities who will be most affected.

Quebec’s Transport Ministry says they have put together a work group to ensure those municipalities are catered to, that traffic is manageable, and detours are in place.

Preliminary work to build a new bridge is currently underway. The bridge is expected to be open to motorists by the end of 2026.
