Montreal police investigating two murders in less than 24 hours, in Lachine and Saint-Leonard

Police confirmed Friday that the 20-year-old man who was found dead in a car Thursday afternoon in Montreal’s Saint-Leonard borough was the victim of a homicide.

This is considered the 33rd murder so far this year on the territory of the Montreal police force (SPVM). The case will now be investigated by members of the SPVM’s major crimes squad.

As of Friday, no arrests had been made.

According to preliminary information, the man’s body was seen in the car around 2:15 p.m. by a passer-by on Place de Fontenelle, near Jean-Talon Street East, in a mainly residential area. Police report he had been shot at least once. His death was pronounced on the scene.

The man’s murder was the second to occur in less than 24 hours in Montreal.

On Wednesday evening, a 23-year-old man was killed in an apartment on Duranceau Avenue, near the intersection of des Érables Street, in the borough of Lachine.
