By News Staff

The historic Imperial Cinema located in downtown Montreal is at risk of closing due to lack of federal funding for necessary renovations, the theatre has said.

It was built in 1913 and is in need of restoration work.

The board warns they may need to close their doors in January if they do not receive federal funding to completed the necessary work.

The theatre has also received financing for the Quebec government, and the City of Montreal.

The Imperial Cinema is a non-profit and is registered as a Quebec heritage building.
