Father and five-year-old in critical condition after fire in Montreal suburb of Hampstead

A 36-year-old father and his five-year-old son are in critical condition after an apartment building caught fire in the Montreal suburb of Hampstead.

The three-alarm fire broke out Sunday night around 10 p.m. on Côte-Saint-Luc Road near Hingston Avenue.

The two victims were taken to hospital after firefighters arrived on scene and rescued the father and son from their apartment.

Montreal police say the cause of this fire is believed to be accidental, but an investigation is underway.

The apartment building was evacuated and firefighters had the blaze under control by around midnight.
