Five-year-old dies following New Year’s Eve fire in Hampstead

A five-year-old has died following a fire in an apartment building in Hampstead on New Year’s Eve.
Montreal fire crews say the fire started around 10 p.m. near Côte-Saint-Luc Road and Hingston Avenue.

The boy and his 36-year-old father were taken to hospital in critical condition. As of Friday afternoon, the father remains critical.
Montreal police say the cause of this fire is believed to be accidental, but an investigation is underway.
