A man in his 60s was stabbed and another arrested at the Longueuil courthouse on Tuesday.
A call was made to police just before 12 p.m. about an armed attack – the victim seriously injured in the upper body.
He was taken to hospital in critical condition.
A 43-year-old man was arrested on the scene and the object used in the alleged stabbing recovered.
He could face charges of attempted murder, authorities say.
Police confirm the two individuals knew each other, calling it a professional link between them, but would not elaborate more.
“The motives and circumstances surrounding this event have yet to be established. An investigation is underway,” write police in a social media post.
The incident happened on the second floor of the courthouse.
The courthouse remains open, but access to the second floor is closed off for now as an investigation is ongoing.
Reports suggest the victim is a court interpreter.
