‘Chasing potholes’: City of Montreal on emergency pothole repair blitz

"We're chasing the potholes," says City of Montreal spokesperson Philippe Sabourin, as an emergency repair blitz was launched to fix the craters on the city's roads. Around 3,500 potholes are being filled daily and Montrealers can report them.

The City of Montreal is on an emergency pothole repair blitz and “chasing potholes,” as spokesperson Philippe Sabourin describes it.

The big and small craters on the roads aren’t difficult to spot and it’s all thanks to the recent rain and temperature change, following back to back winter storms.

“We know there’s tons of potholes on the ground, be careful, slow down your speed,” Sabourin says, cautioning motorists.

The City says their eight repair trucks are on the roads and can fill over 3,500 potholes daily.

“We’re handling the situation, but it takes time,” Sabourin said. “We will need days to complete the operation. We will stay on the job until it’s done.”

Last year, 110,000 potholes were filled in Montreal.

The operation is only possible when conditions are dry, meaning the city is hurrying before more snow is once again in the forecast.

Montrealers can report potholes whenever they see them.

“If the situation is dangerous, feel free to call the 311 or use the app,” Sabourin said. “Take the picture of the pothole, then you send it to the city. It’s geolocalized and we will do a personal follow-up with you.”
