Third person dies after Feb. 2 fire in Pointe-aux-Trembles

A third person has succumbed to their injuries after an apartment fire in Pointe-aux-Trembles last Friday.

The latest victim , 31-year-old Dany Bernier, died over the weekend.

A call was made to 911 around 4:30 a.m. on Feb. 2 to report the fire on Saint-Jean-Baptiste Blvd., near the intersection of de la Gauchetière.

Around 70 Montreal firefighters were dispatched to the scene and the building was evacuated.

Upon arrival, they found three people injured and they were transported to hospital in critical condition.

Alain Bernier, Dany’s father, 58, was confirmed to have succumbed to his injuries in the morning and then a 35-year-old woman was confirmed to have died by afternoon. It is said that she was Dany’s girlfriend.

The cause of the blaze is unknown for now, but signs point to it being accidental in nature. Montreal police are investigating as there are fatalities involved.
