Woman dead in Saint-Basile-le-Grand, partner charged

By News Staff

A 51-year-old woman is dead and her partner charged with second-degree murder in her death. It happened Sunday night in Saint-Basile-le-Grand, on Montreal’s South Shore.

Emergency services were called around 11:30 p.m. to a home on Ménard Street, near Principale Street, for an alleged altercation.

The woman, identified in media reports as Hayette Bouguellid, was transported to hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Richelieu-St-Laurent police say the 53-year-old suspect, Mohamed Ali Mosbah, was arrested onsite. He was charged on Monday afternoon with second-degree murder.

The call to 911 was made by one of the woman’s two children, who were in the house at the time. They are said to be a teenager and young adult.

Police say the woman and man had been living together for a while, but he was not related to the children.

Investigators were to meet with the two children, and police officers were still conducting a forensic investigation at the scene on Monday morning.

This would be the fourth femicide in Quebec since the start of the year. The third, just last week on Feb. 12 in L’Épiphanie.

It’s also the fourth woman killed in the last week, after the incident in L’Épiphanie and the two woman murdered in Vaudreuil on Thursday.
