MUHC, Sacré-Cœur hospitals getting helipads

Montreal’s McGill University Health Centre and Sacré-Cœur Hospital are getting helipads.

The Montreal hospitals are two of four in Quebec chosen by the health ministry for the upgrade.

The other two are the Centre hospitalier régional de Lanaudière in Joliette, and the Roberval Hospital.

Quebec Health Minister Christian Dubé says it’s about modernizing pre-hospital emergency services.

The MUHC says it’s been advocating for a helipad for several years “to support patients who require emergency transport for neonatal intensive care, specialized and ultra-specialized neurological and cardiovascular care, as well as trauma care.”

The hospital is calling the decision a first step in developing “a truly organized helicopter transport system in Quebec that will benefit all patients.”
