Justin Trudeau, François Legault to meet March 15

By The Canadian Press

Quebec Premier François Legault and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will meet on March 15.

The premier’s office in Quebec confirmed the meeting on Tuesday.

Legault’s office says it is “not able to confirm the topics” that will be discussed during the interview, but another source close to the matter confirmed it will be about immigration.

The Legault government claims Quebec’s reception capacity is exceeded and that the province can no longer provide public services to new arrivals, whether in terms of francization or schooling, in addition to the housing crisis.

On Monday, the federal minister of immigration, Marc Miller, announced he had instructed his officials to process 20,500 pending family reunification files over three years, while Quebec is capping this type of immigration at 10,000 admissions per year.
