A woman was found dead in an apartment building in Candiac on Montreal’s South Shore Tuesday.

The victim is said to be Josianne Faucher, and police say she was murdered.

A man who was reportedly her ex-partner is facing charges. David Tota, 38, appeared at the Longueil courthouse Wednesday, according to multiple media reports.

Faucher’s mother posted on Facebook Wednesday, “It’s with great sadness. I just announced the passing of my daughter Josianne Faucher. She was just 27 years old. I miss her so much…This was our baby girl, she didn’t deserve to leave so young. I love you my angel.”

Roussillon Police were called just before 12 p.m. to the scene on de Toulouse Street on April 9.

The victim was pronounced dead on site.

The investigation was transferred to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

“Investigators analyzed the scene and believe that she was murdered,” said SQ spokesperson Louis-Philippe Ruel. “But we are still waiting for the autopsy report to confirm.”

Police made there way to the apartment building after someone who knows the woman was worried about her and called them to do a wellness check.

This is the ninth woman murdered in the province since the beginning of 2024.
