The Défi Sportif AlterGo has returned for its 41st edition in Montreal.

It’s Canada’s largest multi-sport event and features thousands of athletes from all over the world with functional limitations such as auditory, intellectual, motor, and visual, among others.

The competition started on April 26 and will end May 5.

From newer to elite-level contenders, there will be around 6,000 athletes competing in nine different disciplines.

“We are proud to announce the program of the 41st Défi Sportif AlterGo,” said Yan Martin, director of the Défi Sportif AlterGo in a press release. “We are eager to welcome the thousands of athletes…to contribute to their personal journeys, and to see them shine in our many venues, regardless of their limitations, regardless of the level of competition.”

Défi Sportif AlterGo can help many athletes jumpstart their professional careers and potentially open doors for the Paralympic Games.

On Monday, the 2024 Boccia World Cup will take place at the Maurice-Richard Arena, with athletes from over 20 countries competing in the event.

The international power soccer tournament will be held from May 3 to 5 at Cégep Édouard-Montpetit, featuring teams from Canada, United States of America, and Mexico.

Several provincial and national-level competitions will take place like junior para hockey (Howie-Morenz Arena), wheelchair basketball (Cégep Édouard-Montpetit), and the para-swimming and swimming Special Olympics will be held at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex.

On May 4, the Chantal Petitclerc Para-Athletics Classic and a softball tournament for athletes with hearing impairments will be at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex.

This year’s event will feature several spokespeople, including Chantal Petitclerc, Jean-Marie Lapointe, Hugo Girard, and Nancy Audet, who will be joined by young ambassadors who previously competed in the tournament.

Montrealers are also invited to try any of the disciplines at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex as part of the Loto-Québec Sports Trial Zone.

The sports will include boccia, wheelchair basketball, adaptive boxing, para rowing, para hockey, adaptive baseball, and para-climbing.

“It’s the perfect opportunity to try something new and challenge yourself in a fun and friendly atmosphere,” reads the press release.

Défi Sportif AlterGo is the only event since 1984 to have elite and up-and-coming athletes with all functional limitations competing in one competition.
