Fire forces 37 people from their homes in Rosemont

By News Staff

Dozens of people have been left without a place to live after a fire broke out in a Rosemont-La-Petite-Patrie building on Monday morning.

The building houses at risk-women.

Montreal firefighters (SIM) were called to Bellechasse and de Lanaudière Street at around 8:30 a.m.

Over 100 firefighters were needed to extinguish the blaze, which they say started on the first floor and then spread.

The structure of the building was badly damaged – and many who live there lost all their belongings.

The Red Cross is helping 37 people affected by the fire.

One firefighter was treated for what was called a minor injury.

An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the blaze.
