A 46-year-old woman is dead after being stabbed in the Chomedey district of Laval on Wednesday night, and she may have been attacked at random. That’s one of the theories that police are looking at. A 20-year-old man was arrested nearby and charged with first-degree murder on Thursday afternoon.
Emergency services responding to a call about the incident at around 7:30 p.m. in the Armand-Frappier woods, near Murray Avenue and 8th Street.
The victim, identified by police the following day as Irina Draghicescu Iankulov, was found in the wooded area with serious upper body injuries. Reports suggest she was stabbed multiple times.
She was pronounced dead on the scene after attempts to perform CPR were unsuccessful.
With the help of the public, officers were able to quickly arrest the suspect after he attempted to seek refuge in a building.
Konstantinos Tsagaroulis was charged with first-degree murder at the Laval courthouse on Thursday afternoon. Which would mean that authorities believe premeditation was involved.
Police said that the victim and suspect had no familial ties on Thursday morning – but it’s still unclear if they knew each other in any other way.
Neither the suspect or the victim were known to police.
Draghicescu Iankulov was a mother and worked as a real estate agent.
She is the fifth woman killed in Quebec in the last 30 days.
