Man runs over wife twice in hospital parking lot, no criminal element: Montreal police

Montreal police (SPVM) say an 80-year-old woman is improving after she was run over twice by a car – which was being driven by her 83-year-old husband on Thursday. She had been in critical condition initially, but is expected to survive.

It happened around 11:15 a.m. in the parking lot of a downtown hospital and all signs point to it being an accident.

The couple was coming out of a medical appointment at the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) on Sanguinet, when it seems the woman fell behind the vehicle,

The man got into the car and for an unknown reason, before his wife got it, reversed the vehicle. That’s when he went over the women’s body for a first time.

He felt a bump and put the car in drive – to then park and see what had happened. And that’s when he ran her over a second time, explained Sabrina Gauthier, SPVM spokesperson.

The woman was quickly taken charge of by medical staff and authorities fear for her life.

No criminal element is being investigated.
