The final day of a Montreal heatwave will do nothing to deter the more than 20,000 fans expected at Percival Molson Stadium for the Alouettes’ home opener Thursday evening.

The fans will brave the 28 degrees Celsius at kickoff in the hopes of seeing the Alouettes improve to 3-0 on the new CFL season.

They’ll also want to be part of the unveiling of the 2023 Grey Cup banner. Montreal upset the heavy favourite Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the championship game in November.

And after two weeks on the road, the reigning champion Als have a chance to celebrate one more time with the hometown crowd.

The home opener festivities will include a flyby by two CF-18 jets; there will be musical performances from Quebec band “Comment Debord” and Kaïn; and Olympian Marie-Philip Poulin will open the Alouettes’ “cage” prior to kickoff.

Montreal won eight straight games over the regular season and playoffs last year before hoisting the Grey Cup. This year they’ve picked up where they left off, with impressive road wins against the Bombers and Edmonton Elks to bring their winning streak to 10.

The Alouettes host the Ottawa Redblacks at Molson Stadium.
