Tree falls on woman hiking in Mont-Saint-Bruno

By Pierre Saint-Arnaud, The Canadian Press

A woman in her 70s died Thursday at Parc national du Mont-Saint-Bruno, on Montreal’s South Shore.

Authorities say she was killed instantly when a tree fell on her at around 12:45 p.m.

She was pronounced dead on the scene by first responders.

The victim was hiking with members of her family when the accident happened.

It’s unknown why the tree fell exactly, but park officials said strong winds were recorded at around noon in the park.

The investigation has been turned over to the coroner’s office, who will be responsible for shedding light on the circumstances of this event.

Longueuil police officers were on site to assist, but have already ruled out any suspicious cause.
