Minor fire in downtown Montreal high-rise forces evacuation

A fire in a 61-floor residential high-rise in downtown Montreal forced an evacuation Monday afternoon.

About 90 firefighters from the Montreal Fire Department (SIM) responded around 1 p.m. to a one-alarm fire on the 24th floor of the residential building located on Jeanne-Mance Street – between René-Lévésque Boulevard West and Sainte-Catherine Street West.

Crews were able to put out the blaze quickly. It was reportedly limited to one condo unit.

Residents of the 24th and 25th floors of the building were evacuated. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
