Hydro-Québec defrauded of nearly $500,000: report

Hydro-Québec has been the victim of a “supplier fraud” of nearly half a million dollars, according to La Presse report.

A fraudster is alleged to have impersonated a company that Hydro-Québec does business with, in order to change the banking details where payments are directed.

A total of $463,968.19 is now missing.

Hydro-Québec has confirmed it was the victim of fraud on July 8 and an investigation has now been launched.

The public utility company has filed a complaint with the Sûreté du Québec.

Only the supplier’s systems were affected. At no point were Hydro-Quebec’s computer systems compromised.
