Heat warning in effect for Montreal

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the Montreal area.

According to the weather agency, the humidex will reach nearly 40 degrees on Thursday and Friday.

“Nights will remain warm with lows exceeding 20 degrees,” reads the heat advisory. “The feeling of discomfort will be particularly acute in urban areas, where temperatures could reach a few degrees higher.”

On Thursday, a mix of sun and clouds with a 30 per cent chance of showers in the afternoon and a risk of thunderstorms. The high will be 30 degrees with a low of 21.

Mainly sunny on Friday, with a high of 32 and a low of 23. The humidity will make it feel like 41.

Possible wet weather on Saturday, with a 60 per cent chance of showers, a high of 25 and a low of 21.

On Sunday, cloudy skies with a 60 per cent chance of showers. A high of 28 and a low of 19.

Warm temperatures continue next week, with a mix of sun and clouds on Monday. A high of 25 degrees and a low of 19.

Heat stroke prevention

A few tips to help avoid heat stroke:

-Stay hydrated

-Reduce physical effort: minimize physical exercise, especially outdoors, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., when the sun peaks

-Avoid alcohol or coffee

-Check in on your loved ones, friends, or neighbors who live alone and those who are more vulnerable to extreme temperatures
