Rainfall warning issued for Quebec: Remnants of Tropical Storm Debby

By The Canadian Press

A special weather warning for a large part of Quebec, including Montreal, for a high risk of heavy rainfall as early as Thursday night – due to remnants of tropical storm Debby.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) warns that between 50 and 100 mm of rain could fall within 24 hours. With about 90 mm for Montreal.

The heaviest downpours are expected on Friday evening and overnight into Saturday, the agency said. Low-lying areas could also experience flooding.

“This rain is caused by a low-pressure system interacting with moisture associated with Tropical Storm Debby,” the federal agency explained.

Debby, still a tropical storm, made a second landfall early Thursday near Bulls Bay, South Carolina.

The storm is expected to continue moving inland, spreading heavy rain and possible flooding along its path.

Debby made its first landfall as a Category 1 hurricane in Florida on Monday. At least six people have died so far, since tropical storm Debby landed.

Weekend forecast

On Friday, the high will be 25 degrees, with rain and a chance of thunderstorms. The low will be 19.

The sunshine returns Saturday with a high of 24 and a low of 18.

On Sunday, possible wet weather with a 70 per cent chance of showers. A mix of sun and clouds throughout the day with a high 22 and a low of 16 degrees.
