Amber Alert ends: Montreal-area child found safe in Ontario, 2 women face kidnapping charges

By News Staff

A five-year-old missing since Monday night from Brossard, on Montreal’s South Shore, was “found safe and sound” on Tuesday morning in Ontario.

On Wednesday, two women were charged with kidnapping in connection to the case.

The suspects, aged 65 and 48, appeared in a Longueuil, Que., court today, where they were charged with kidnapping, kidnapping with the intent of taking a person out of Canada, and abduction of a person under 14 with intent of depriving their parent or guardian of possession.

The Crown prosecutor’s office says the two will return to court on Thursday for a bail hearing.

Their names are under a publication ban to protect the identity of the child.

An Amber Alert was issued at around 4 a.m. on Tuesday, and by 10:17 a.m. the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) posted to social media that the child had been found and thanked the public for their collaboration.

The boy was found in the York Region, north of Toronto, according to the SQ. He was unharmed and will be returned to Quebec.

Witnesses reportedly saw a suspect leaving with the child at around 6 p.m. on Monday and alerted emergency services.

The 65-year-old suspect was believed to have a direct link to the minor, but it was not confirmed what the relationship was.

The alert added that the woman and boy were travelling in a car with Ontario plates.

The Ontario Provincial Police were informed of the Amber Alert at an early stage.

An Amber Alert is triggered when a child is believed to have been abducted and is in grave danger.
