Online strangers in Quebec split $5M lottery win

Nineteen Quebecers who did not know each other previously met under pretty special circumstances.

The strangers part of an online group dubbed “Friday the 13th group” claimed a Lotto 6/49 jackpot worth $5 million on Sept. 18.

According to Loto-Quebec, each member of the group will take home $250,000. One Montreal resident, Alain Richard, is pocketing $500,000 as he bought two shares in the lottery ticket.

Centre-du-Québec resident Raynald Cusson created the group and named it the “Friday the 13th group,” and used a free ticket that was won in the Sept. 14 draw, to win on Sept. 18.
